Moana Pacific harvesting operations exemplify the company's "hands on"
management style.
Harvesting
is carried out by experienced crews on privately owned coastal vessels,
which meet Moana's strict product quality requirements.
Fresh
Catch. Always.
We seek out only those species for which there is a known immediate demand,
wherever possible harvesting by long lining to optimise the quality of
fish flesh.
Rapid
Chilling.
The fresh fish are immediately placed in an ice slurry for rapid chilling.
Special care is taken to maintain the landed fish at the optimum chill
temperature of 0° degrees Celsius.
Careful
handling.
Throughout all of the stages of harvesting the fish are carefully handled
to avoid any damage.
All
around New Zealand.
Harvesting is carried out from ports spread around the entire coastline.
This provides direct access to all of New Zealand 200-mile Exclusive Economic
Zone. The fishing vessels spend comparatively short periods at sea returning
their catch to port within a minimum delay to ensure product freshness.
Controlled
harvesting.
Moana Pacific's access to New Zealand's seafood resources is protected
by a Government controlled Quota Management System. This unique resource
management system allows perpetual access to a fixed proportion of the
fishery area. Controlled harvesting ensures long term sustainability of
the fish resource.
